Radio Shack: Best Buy after a closeout sale
I was shocked when Circuit City liquidated it’s American retails stores, leaving empty buildings littering the landscape like so many dead beetle carcasses on their backs, legs sticking up into the air. But not nearly as shocked as when I realized Radio Shack was still open.
When is the last time “Holy crap I have to get to Radio Shack right now!” ran through your head? Maybe it was the last time you needed an electric keyboard? A headphone splitter? A new battery for your garage door opener?
I don’t mean to slam; I’m just observing. I go in once every year to buy an RCA to mini adapter. (Incidentally I always come out feeling guilty, knowing I could have instead used that money to feed ten hungry children.) Peering at the other shelves and displays I think to myself, “If a Best Buy were looted during a riot, these are all the things that would be left behind.”
To be fair I’ve heard that Radio Shack sold the first cordless phones. Well that’s great guys, but I think the dollar store sells those now, too. If you’ve got a reason to exist anymore, please tell us, because it isn’t showing.
