First day at RailsConf

Monday of RailsConf is an optional tutorial day. I attended one on jQuery and another called Testing, Design, and Refactoring. Most of the material was elementary, but I did come away with some new useful knowledge. I’m looking forward to several sessions on testing-related technologies and practices tomorrow, and hoping their titles are more consistent with their verb tenses.

Tonight I intended to take a constitutional down the strip with my camera. Note, dear reader, that it is no easy task setting your white balance at dusk, surrounded by thousands of neon lights. And if you remember to charge your camera battery, you will have done better than I.

These few pictures are all I captured before running out of charged lithium ions (or whatever).

Turning back, I ran into an animated man sitting in a bus stop with a Jesus hat. He asked me if I knew that Jesus was the reason for the season, or something to that effect. Given that it’s May, I’m not sure what he meant. But knowing that it’s best to behave amicably in these situations, I assured him I knew, returned his fist bump, and hurriedly went on my way.

The rest of the night was spent cruising down the strip with Coldplay and Pink Floyd, planning what I would shoot when my camera was charged.

  1. Anonymously me says:

Vegas looks incredible! Hope you’re having a great time.

  2. Jared says:

Yeah man, see it’s all in the lens and your eye. Once you’re past 5 or so, Megapixels don’t mean a dang thing. HAHA! Tell that to Canon’s new 15.1 mp uber-consumerized mess of an SLR with an identity crisis. Dang, your composition on the Stratosphere Tower is perfect. More pictures! (If you get a chance, use your CS filter for one. I’d like to see how it works.)
